FAQs – Windows and Door Buying Advice from Homesealed

What’s the difference between sash windows and casement windows?
Sash windows slide vertically and give homes a traditional, elegant look. They're especially popular in older properties across Glasgow, like sandstone tenements or Victorian villas. Casement windows open outwards or tilt inwards and are more common in modern homes, offering great ventilation and easy cleaning.

Do timber-effect sash windows really look like timber?
They really do. Our uPVC sash windows can be finished with authentic-looking woodgrain effects that are incredibly realistic. They're often chosen for homes in conservation areas like Bearsden, Hyndland, or Clarkston, and look almost identical to painted timber – even up close.

How long does it take to fit new windows or doors?
On average, our two-person team can install around three to six windows a day. The exact timescale depends on access and how many units are being replaced. We always aim to work efficiently and cleanly, with as little disruption as possible.

Who installs your windows?
We use only our own fully trained in-house fitting teams. No subcontractors. Our installers are based in Glasgow and know the local housing styles inside out, whether it’s a new-build in Bishopbriggs or a traditional flat in Shawlands.

Will removing window frames affect my electrics?
Usually no, but in some older properties we might find hidden cables close to the frames. If that happens, we’ll pause and arrange for a qualified electrician to check it over before continuing. Safety is always our priority.

Can someone break in by removing the glass from outside?
No, our full range windows are internally glazed. This means the glass panels can’t be taken out from the outside unless smashed, which adds a strong layer of protection against intruders.

Do you offer windows with child safety features?
Yes, we do. We provide options like window restrictors, locking handles, and safety catches – all designed to help protect young children. These are especially popular in family homes across East Kilbride, Newton Mearns and other residential areas.

Is decorative or obscure glass hard to clean?
Not at all. The decorative pattern is sealed between the glass panes, which means the outside surface stays smooth. You can clean it just like any other window with no fuss.

Do Homesealed offer sash windows that tilt inwards for cleaning?
Yes – we supply tilt-in sash windows, which are ideal for upstairs rooms or flats with limited outdoor access. Just keep in mind that if you go for the tilt feature, we won’t be able to include sash horns, as they clash with the opening mechanism.
